Prachi Desai
- Your upcoming projects that we should watch out for?
This year is pretty exciting. I have 2 films releasing in the same month. Mid year; that is in July. I have Bol Bachchan which is a Rohit Shetty film with Ajay Devgn and Abhishek Bacchan. It releases on the 6th of July. And then I have I, Me Aur Main. A completely different film and that’s with John Abraham which releases on the 26th of July. Both are completely different films. In one I play a completely Bohemian character. Young and street smart, nothing like the roles I have played before. The other film is an out and out comedy. You know what to expect from a Rohit Shetty film. It’s a super entertainer. That was a lot of fun shooting actually.
2. Any plans on returning to small screen.
Not actually. In fact, when I left television in 2008 to go to doing Rock On!, since then I think it was pretty clear that I had said good bye to daily soaps for good. Since then I haven’t really been offered daily soaps as such, but there are some interesting television offers in terms of judging a show or hosting it. I think that’s something I’d still be interested in. I could look at opportunities that look good to me. But I don’t know when the right time is going to come. I just think it’s a state of mind and maybe then I’ll come back.
3. You went from being a model to doing television and now films… What’s next?
Not really; frankly I have no experience or nothing to do with modeling. I was just 17 years old and studying in Pune. That’s when I auditioned for the first time ever for a show and well, I lied about my age back then. I was actually 16 back then and the minimum age was 18. But I just wanted to give it a try and that got me to Bombay and I never looked back after that. Life just began. It just happened to me.
4. Are you a fitness freak? A few tips for a quick work out.
I’m quite lazy that way. Not quite actually a fitness freak. But I think this profession demands it. So there’s no saying no to that. So, yes I have to look after myself. I personally think everyday exercise is a must. It could be in any form. Trust me ask anybody, working out at a gym can be really boring. Walking a treadmill or even a cardio day is quite boring. So I’d say try new things, try different things. Like if your fond of cycling, you could just go out and cycle. It could be alone, it could be with friends. You can also try yoga. I think it gives you the best results. And I don’t mean in terms or weight loss or anything like that. But yes for you to look and feel good, yoga is a nice option. If you like dancing or any form of dance, you can try that or you can even try aerobics. These are some of the regular options that people pick. And of course if you are a water-baby then swimming is it.
5. Which is the smart phone that you are currently using? And what’s the best feature about it?
I’m quite addicted to my Blackberry and that just because of BBM. It took me almost a year and a half to just get on to the BBM and that’s because I was very happy with the phone I was using earlier. And it is quite a thing with me as in before switching on to a thing or a phone it takes me the longest time. Because I just get used to one thing and I don’t want to switch. But here now I’m completely addicted to my Blackberry because all of my friends are just about a ping away so that makes it easier.
6. Are you a gadget freak? What was your latest purchase?
I’m not really. Until a year ago I used to think it’s just about a need. I just want things around me as many as I need. But I think it’s another addiction. Once you get into it, you want to keep advancing with everything new that comes out. You want to get it and also want to get a hang of it. But I’m more into clothes than gadgets. The iPad is the last thing I bought.
7. What’s next for grabs?
A nice camera. I really want a good camera for myself. I don’t know if I’m a good or bad photographer. But I love taking pictures.
8. If you were to come up with any gadget especially for women, what would it be? Why?
I wish there was this machine where it could completely decode your thoughts. Like if you have a dream about a bag or a pair of shoes or any clothes, it’s right there in front of you. The machine just produces it for you. That would definitely be ‘THE THING FOR WOMEN’.
9. Women and technology? How much do they complement each other according to you? Your comments.
There’s a joke that’s currently going around on blackberry or actually anywhere else. People are forwarding this to each other. A girl asks her boyfriend what’s the computer or laptop he’s using? And he tells her that he’s using so and so laptop and it has so and so software etc etc. And he asks her what’s the laptop that she’s using? And the only answer she has is that I have a ‘pink one’. So I think that’s the relation that women have with technology and gadgets. But I’m not going to say that it’s the same with everybody. There are girls who are very advanced. They are gadget freaks and love it. I just think it’s a phase. Once there’s an interest that you have, you can be as good as the guys out there. It’s all about interest and paying attention.
10. Are you addicted to shopping online? And which is the most preferred web store?
As much as I love shopping it’s like a job for me. Like if I wear a certain outfit twice, I’m written about it. Everybody’s discussing about it probably even more than your films or the work that you doing. For us it is a job, it is a part of our job. Online shopping; yes I do it out of a little bit of interest or whatever little I require for my job but otherwise I’m not that addicted. There is not any particular web store that I visit. If I get updated from my friends as to anything new that has come or something that I have been looking for and I’ve not found, I’d pick that.
11. Is Prachi Desai on Facebook/Twitter/Google+?
I’m actually not on the social networking sites. There are a lot of fake accounts, a lot of impersonators. I don’t like that idea you know. It’s something that really annoys me. It’s unfair first of all. I am thinking of getting on to Twitter really soon because it’s really hit me hard. It’s sad that they pretty much know about my life and they keep updating things that only I know and like.
Personally I feel that any celebrity, an actor or a star has a certain amount of mystery level that is there to them. The audience is always craving more and more and if you get out there and you make them feel that your just one of them then I guess that the mystery level just comes down. But these days you’re lucky as you can just tell as much as your want; you can be there as much as you want or not. I guess slowly slowly it’s become important for you from your work perspective of course also from your personal perspective but also professionally. So I think now its fine for all of us to be there. It just depends how much and what you want to update.
12. Do you think technology has taken over our lifestyle?
I’d say it is good because our lives are really fast and in Mumbai I’d say life is the fastest and of course we get so busy in our lives and the work that we do that we got no time to meet family or friends or do the things that we want to do. So I guess that just made it easier because you can stay connected to all your friends from no matter where and still be in touch; but now I guess people are becoming lazy because of social networking sites. You just don’t make an effort anymore because it’s just a click away. I think it goes both ways. It’s good as well as bad.
13. Your favorite tech personality.
Mark Zuckerberg. Even though I’m not on Facebook, I know that Facebook has changed the lives of people.
14. A secret you would like to spill out to our Exhibit Readers.
Okay, I’ll keep it technology related. I do have an iPad and all that I do most of the time on my iPad is play games and I love puzzle games. I keep downloading these new games all the time. I specially love the mystery games and if there is anything to do with haunting or a castle in the game, that’s it! That’s the game I want to play
15. Your favorite tablet and why?
Ipad.
Actually I have not really tried any of the other tablets. I don’t know why but I always wanted the iPad! Always! I think if I looked at the other ones it would just make it a really difficult choice for me. But yeah the iPad is definitely preferred. Now there’s a new one that’s come up. But I’m not going to feel bad. I’ll still be happy with the one I have.
16. If you could ask Steve Jobs a question, what would it be?
Right now I really want to know how many of those iPads in the lineup are already ready. I really want to know what they already have in store for us.
17. The gadget you can’t do without:
My phone. I think my life will stop if I don’t have my phone
18. Any predictions for the tech scenario 10 years down the line.
Sometimes I really wonder, hundreds of years ago, I don’t think anybody ever wondered that we would be at this stage today. So I really wonder what life is going to be like 100 to 200 years down the line. Life has changed so much ever since. 20 years ago we didn’t have the iPad and today we have them. So yes I would really like to know where technology is going to reach. It’s going to be completely mechanical and completely technical. Virtual offices are definitely going to be there. Like how we have Facebook for social networking, I think we will have offices in the same way. So yes I think it’s going to be all over.
19. Do you think people will get fed up of Facebook and tweeting?
There is a trend that suddenly floods in like a tsunami, and it takes in everybody with a big surprise. Yes, of course everybody is really excited initially but if you don’t keep reinventing something new or changing it a little bit, everybody tends to get bored of it. And that is why, why do you think we have the new iPad now? It’s just because everybody needs that little change.
20. You’re stuck on an island without any source of communication; what will you do?
There are these days that I have when I completely want to cut off. So yes that will be the day when I will be completely cut off from the rest of the world. But I think that would be the day when I will really live my life and be me and enjoy it because I have never imagined it that way.
