In conversation with Shruti Haasan...
Even though she doesn’t like to be known as the Kolaveri girl right now, Shruti Haasan, the daughter of the legendary Kamal Haasan, does recognize the value that song has added to her life. Apart from that her life is usually filled with working on various Bollywood projects, plus also deciding which ones are worth doing. She is quite a techie at core and is not baffled with any kind of questions you throw at her.

Upcoming projects that we should watch out for? Should we look out or anything particular in Bollywood?
Yes definitely everyone should look out for me in Bollywood in the near future. There is a misconception these days. I've not made a conscious decision to stay away from Bollywood or to focus on any language particularly. I've always been on the hunt for interesting characters so definitely more stuff in the south and definitely something in Bollywood as well.
·How tech savvy are you? How do you keep yourself updated with current trends?
I'm not super tech savvy but I should be, considering I'm a musician as well. But I have an I pad , I have a Mac lap top, I have an I pod. I have like a super cool stereo system, a good pair of head phones and two phones all for my personal use, so I think I'm fairly tech savvy.
·What according to you has been breakthrough in the field of tech?
For me, a break through would definitely have to be touch screen phones. They are Great!!
· You're singer, a music composer, an actor... What more should we watch out for from Shruti Haasan?
I don't know. It actually depends. Hopefully I can find something new that I can be half decent at and work on it... but for now my focus is only films.
· Is it cinema or music that interests you more?
Being creative interests me the most, whatever line you choose, be it music, acting.
· Your magnum moments:
For me I think my magnum moment was when I started singing for the first time when I was 5 years old and after that again when I went to America to study music and perform live over there.
. What kind of films are you looking to do?
I'm looking at films that I'll always be happy to be a part of. Every film has so far taught me something new, so everything for me is about a learning experience, so definitely something along those lines. But I don't have a specific genre or specific character.
· Life without technology is...
Very very difficult and tedious.
· 3 gadgets you can't do without are...
I can’t do without my phone, my I pod and my I pad. Love them too much!!
· Are you a gaming girl? if yes, which are the games you play the most? Any particular one you are addicted to?
I was very much a gaming girl. I have an X Box 360 and a PS3. My favorite game of all time is Mortal Combat and Tekken 5. I was addicted to God Of Wars. And finally after all these games I’ve landed on angry birds
·What's your take on social media? How often do you interact with your fans on the platform?
A lot of people stay away from this but social media is great to some extent but also has its disadvantages. If used wisely and used in a positive manner I think it’s a great thing. I'm on twitter and I tweet almost everyday. I don't respond to my fans everyday because then it comes across as biased because you can only respond to so much. But I do take into consideration a fans opinion. I think social media for an artist, is a great way to get uncensored opinion. Some of it is not so great and that why we have the Block button but otherwise its really great to get some real and un filtered feedback from your fans.
· What are your predictions for the tech scenario in the next 5 years?
There are things that I would like, which would make some of the devices I have simpler. But that's asking for a lot because we've already gone so far ahead. So whatever I'm given, I want to be happy with, at this point.
· In an interview way back in October with a daily you stated that Kolaveri has ruined your party life... so is it still that way or has it changed?
I was being very sarcastic when I said that. I said Kolaveri had ruined my party life, because I had become the Kolaveri girl. Having said that every one in the team and everyone who was a part of it was very proud of the song and what its done. But now fortunately the whole Kolaveri hype has come down a bit. It’s a great relief to me and now it’s back to Akon and Enrique songs.
· If your were an inventor.... you would most likely invent…
A Machine that would record dreams and project them.
· Any person you look up to the most? Your inspiration:
There's too many to name. I don't have one particular inspiration. Because I meet so many people who inspire me different ways almost every day. I know it’s a cheesy answer. But that's what I believe.
· You have been and are still a part of your band 'The Extramentals’ and now onto playback singing... Which one of the two do you enjoy more and why?
I started my career with playback singing. I'm not a part of the Extramentals any more. We disbanded about 3 years ago. But I do play with the band as and when I can. It’s very very difficult to compare playback and a studio experience to live performing experience. The energy is totally different. I enjoy both very very much and I wouldn't compare. I really love doing both.
· Your experience with the Xolo:
I think the Xolo is one of the smartest and the best looking phones out there. It has all the features I could ask for in a phone. I Love how wide the screen is. And the fact that both the cameras give you such high resolution pictures, is great!! One of the reasons I would definitely buy this phone is because it has a Intel processor. No other phone does. I'm glad this phone is out in the market. And I can't wait for the next model!!!
